Birth of ELEKIT

ELEKIT was born at the electric appliance shop "KAHO" in Fukuoka in 1970's. The founder Tsunao Yanase saw many children visiting their shop to find parts to make a radio, with a technical book in their hands. Then he came to an idea of making a kit set of those radio parts for these children. This kit set evolved into a robot kit series called "MOVIT" which gained much popularity among children.

Aim of ELEKIT

ELEKIT, including “MOVIT”, is a kit series that provide children with learning about making things, electronics, programming, etc., with fun. Nowadays, although children are surrounded by various devices, such as portable game players, smart phones, tablets, PCs, etc., how these devices work is more difficult to imagine than before. Highly-developed technology and downsized parts obscured the mechanism and the principle of such devices so that users have less chance to develop the skill to become a "maker". An American professor forecasts that after 20 years from now half of the jobs we have now will become things of the past. Menial labors are handled by computers and robots, therefore we human being will have to spare a deep thought for what need to be done by humans. In the future, the ability that the society requires for human being is to create highly creative jobs that utilize computers and robots. By assembling ELEKIT, children can go through an experience of making radios and robots by combining electronic parts, gears, etc. by their own hands, which will trigger their interest in how things around them work. It is our hope that children grow up with a big dream and ambition and will be able to develop something that are creative, interesting, and that of good service to the society when they are grown up.
